Black Chili Compound
This is the name of the revolutionary tread compound based on the latest polymer and raw material research. For BlackChili, Continental refines newly developed synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to produce high-performance tread compounds. Continental adds nano-scale soot particles to these rubbers, which are optimized in shape and surface properties in order to adapt the compound to the respective application of the tire.

Tires with BlackChili Compound achieve an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to activated silica tires, BlackChili tires have 26% lower rolling resistance, 30% higher grip and 5% higher mileage.

Vectran Breaker
Vectran is a synthetically produced high-tech fibre with a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multi-fibrous yarn. Spider silk as well as Vectran have an enormous tensile strength at lowest weight.

The resistance is proven by many applications of Vectran: Ropes for astronauts, spinnaker sails, deep-sea cables, cut-resistant clothing. Vectran can be found wherever extreme durability is required. The Vectran fibre has a five times higher tensile strength than steel, is fatigue-resistant and therefore extremely resilient. Exactly the right properties to be used as puncture protection in a Continental Top tyre. A Vectran breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than comparable nylon breakers without negatively affecting rolling resistance.
