The Tern GSD R14 – the versatile and relatively compact electric cargo bike
Even with enormous capacity, a cargo bike should be as compact as possible – Tern has implemented this guiding principle in the GSD R14 and created a flexible transport miracle that can easily move up to 160 kilograms of cargo even without a transport box. Thanks to the powerful Bosch Cargoline drive, the push assistance and the possibility to mount up to two child seats on the rack, it is a serious alternative to the car, especially for small families. At 186 centimetres long, it is only about as long as an average touring bike and has similarly good handling.

Powerful drive
The propulsion comes from the powerful Cargoline drive by Bosch, which offers up to 400% assistance with a torque of 85 Nm. In addition, the push-off assistance makes it easier to get going at up to 6 km/h, which makes life easier for you, especially in city traffic and when fully loaded. The high-quality Rohloff Speedhub E14 impresses with its 14 gears and its wide gear ratio range, but you do not have to shift individually. Instead, the electronic shift function with the Bosch Intuvia control element ensures smooth gear changes. In addition, the automatic downshift function shifts to an optimal starting gear if you ever have to brake abruptly. The hydraulic 4-piston disc brakes by Magura can be well-dosed and bring you solidly to a halt, no matter how full and heavy the bike may be. The high-quality Gates belt drive is reinforced with carbon fibres, so it is particularly quiet, durable and low maintenance.

Extendable range thanks to dual battery design
Directly behind the seat tube are two Bosch PowerPack batteries with a total capacity of 1,000 Wh, which combined have a remarkable range of up to 170 kilometres. However, you can also take smaller trips with only one battery. Depending on how much weight you transport with this e-cargo bike, a battery charge can be used up much earlier. So the possibility of expansion is quite welcome.

Space for up to 2 children on the rack
The elongated rack has integrated footrests on both sides and can be equipped with two Thule child seats if required. And even full CargoHold bags with over 60 litres of volume fit on the carrier. To prevent lively feet from getting caught in the spokes or luggage from getting dirty from splashing water in bad weather, the rear wheel and drive are equipped with sturdy covers.

Comfort and safety
Despite its cargo capacity, the tern GSD R14 ensures a smooth ride and at 1.86 metres is about as long as an average touring bike. The sturdy aluminium frame with its low entry is suitable for riders with a height from 1.50 to 1.95 metres. The suspended Thudbuster ST seatpost from Cane Creek provides an extra dose of riding comfort. The RearStop active brake light ensures good visibility on the road at all times and the bright Ignis headlight provides excellent light for you to see with as well as visibility in different weather and light conditions. An Abus lock is integrated into the suspension fork with 70 millimetres of travel as an immobiliser, which is also keyed to the battery. So you only need one key for your GSD R14 cargo bike.

Space-saving and convenient parking
An outstanding feature of the GSD R14 is that it can be parked on edge, i.e., standing on its rear, so that it can fit into a relatively small space in the cellar or hallway and also fits into an average lift. To park this Cargobike in a particularly space-saving way, you can also retract the seat post and fold down the handlebars with the practical folding mechanism in a few seconds. On the road you can park the bike including its load on the super-stable Atlas Lockstand with auto-lock function. This stand automatically locks into place and is conveniently released via a handlebar remote when you start riding, so you don’t have to worry about the bike falling over while you’re helping the kids in or packing luggage.
